She originally dyed her hair because of her schoolgirl obsession with the story of Anne Of Green Gables.
She admitted several years ago: ‘I’m naturally a dark blonde. I couldn’t tell you what shade because I haven’t seen it in ages. I started playing with red hair when I was ten years old. I recognise how odd it is now, but my mum let me do it.
‘I was obsessed with Anne Of Green Gables. There was something about her that spoke to me – and I wanted to have her beautiful red hair. My mum said, “Well, let’s throw a rinse on it.

Christina confessed her vibrant hair shade influences her fashion choices and has encouraged her to opt for more 'quirky' and 'eccentric' styles.
She said: "I think being a red head has encouraged me to be a bit more playful with my fashion, maybe be little bit more quirky and eccentric even, so when I go out in the evening I like to play with colour and jewellery and it sort of compliments being a red head."
The actress - who was recently unveiled as the face of hair colour brand Nice N Easy's Shift A Shade campaign - added that people rarely believe she dyes her famous locks by herself.

She said: 'People never believe that I do my hair colour myself at home. They say, 'You don't do your hair at home by yourself, do you?', and I always reply and say 'I honestly do!'
The Tennessee-born star - who worked as a model in her late teens and twenties - fell in love with her red hair after Nice 'N Easy opted to dye her blonde locks on her first shoot for the brand in the '90s.
She told DailyMail.com: 'The first time I did a photo shoot with Clairol Nice 'N Easy was when I was about 19 or 20 years old, I was a model and I was blonde at the time.
'[They] took me red and I was absolutely thrilled, I loved it so much I still actually have the picture from that shoot. I went back to my agency and said I'm staying red this is it, I love it, and they let me.'
